Build Muscle with Consistency
Changing the body happens so subtly over time that if it isn't considered a long term project you will probably just throw in the towel because changes can be so minute that we don't think anything is actually happening. But take a look at these photos and just stop for minute and process how long between photos.
Blue crop top June 2014, black top today, May 2018!
4 years of muscle growth! My clothes size hasn't changed, aside from 1 of my favourite dresses that I can no longer do up 😭 If you knew the amount of reps done, weight lifted etc you would think I should be the Incredible Hulk by now, but the 4 years of lifting have resulted in only this?! Only those who are trying to build muscle can truly appreciate the work this has taken. My lats have grown, as have my shoulders and biceps, and I feel all over wider, but if we believed everything we see online we would think this growth should have/would have been achieved in 8 or 12 weeks.
So believe me when I say I know what it's like to feel frustrated that you aren't reaching your goals as fast as you think you should be. Believe me when I say that I know what it feels like to want to alter your diet or macros every 4 weeks. Believe me when i say that I know what it feels like to want to change to a new program every 4 weeks. But please believe me when I say there is no magic diet or workout. What there is is consistency. Over and over and over again, forever and ever.
Muscles may not be your goal but I hope that health is, and for this the same rules apply.
So if you follow IG or FB fitness accounts and see amazing transformations every day, just remember that not everything is as it seems. Most people have an agenda. I know it's not sexy and its not a quick fix nor a magic pill. I'm not preaching the latest fad diet of keto or paleo; I am simply telling you to eat your fruit n vege, lean proteins, good fats and enjoy a little wine, cake & chocolate. Lift weights, stick with compound lifts and change up the accessory moves, join in group classes, do whatever your 'thing' is. Just do it consistently....forever😎
